DemUnited is about the political center, and that means drawing a line.
DemUnited is a home for the center-left, the middle, and the center-right. That welcome comes with one clear line: we say no to socialism. Not because we lean right. We don’t. We draw this line from the center, because the reasonable middle knows the difference between fixing capitalism and burning it down.
Capitalism is not perfect. But nothing in history has ever worked better at lifting people out of poverty and turning ideas into progress. What it needs is not a replacement. It needs a conscience: fair rules, honest taxes, strong unions, a real safety net, and a health care system that works. That is not socialism. That is capitalism doing its job, and it is exactly what our Core Principles stand for.
The socialists want you to miss that difference. When the Democratic Socialists of America point to Sweden and Denmark and say “socialism works,” they are pointing at countries that kept capitalism, taxed it, and regulated it. That is not their model. Their model is tearing capitalism down and handing the economy to the government. They are counting on you never checking.
The Founders saw this coming. The Fifth Amendment says private property cannot be taken without just compensation. That means the government cannot simply take what is yours and make it theirs, which is exactly the socialist project. So the DSA is left with a choice: pay full price for the entire American economy, which is impossible, or go around the Constitution, which should tell you everything about where that road ends. The Constitution is a guardrail. Socialism only works if you tear it out.
So check. The two articles below make the whole case in plain English. And if you are tired of being told your only choices are the far left and the far right, you are not alone. You are the majority.
Social democracy keeps capitalism.
Democratic socialism wants to replace it.
